The Top 5 Best Movies To Watch This Winter That Your Are Sure To Love

Movie recommendations can be difficult to give as it is difficult to recommend a movie that is going to be liked by everyone, however, there are some movies which do fall into this category. This list aims to do just that and has all of the best movies to watch this winter.

5. Knives Out

This murder mystery ticks all the boxes for a film including the film’s unique plot, aesthetically pleasing setting/cinematography and likeable characters. The film stars Daniel Craig - as a southern detective (who’s accent makes the film all the more entertaining) - and Ana Des Armas who was the nurse to the now dead Harlan Thromby who was a murder mystery novelist and finds herself at the centre of this murder mystery. This is a great movie to watch if you want something that feels both homey yet also intriguing. Once you’ve finished this movie there is also a sequel called ‘Glass Oninion’ which you can watch (which is good but does not measure up to its predecessor).

4. The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is one of those franchises where the movies really do live up to the hype. A great thing about The Hunger Games is that its dystopian setting lends itself to some of the best character arcs of any movie franchise and therefore makes for a great watch for people who love dramas. The franchise’s main character, Katniss, is portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence who expertly portrays the character in a way no one else could, with each traumatic scene of the character crying feeling just as impactful as the last while also maintaining the strong, stoic nature of Katniss. Despite many of its teen characters, this movie franchise is something that can be enjoyed by someone of any age with stand out performances from some more mature actors such as the legendary Donald Sutherson as President Snow, who sadly passed away recently, and Woody Harelson as Haymitch. The movies in this franchise have important messages and takeaways which were expertly adapted on screen to be just as powerful as they are in the books.

3. Little Women

Little Women is a period piece with core themes of family and coming of age. The film is something that anyone will be able to relate to and any viewer will be able to easily see themself in one of the March sisters. If you’re looking for a dramatic and emotional movie, then Little Women is the perfect movie for your next movie night.

2. What Happened To Monday?

This is a Netflix original movie you may not have heard of which released in 2017. If you are a fan of dystopian and futuristic films then this makes for a really great watch, The film tells the story of 7 sisters who were all born at once and due to the one child policy in the future (due to overpopulation), each sister is named after a day of the week - the day of which they are allowed to leave the house. The sisters are now adults and have managed to go undetected so far until things start to fall apart when the sisters worry when they… don’t know what happened to Monday when she doesn’t come home one day.

1. The Grinch (2019)

This animated take on the classic Christmas tale is a rare occasion where the remake - in my opinion - does it even better. Yes, this is an animated movie but it has a really strong story and emotional storytelling which can be enjoyed by the whole family. Bonus: This is a Christmas movie which makes it perfect for a wintertime movie night.

Final Thoughts

There are many great movies to watch at the moment but these were five of my favourite which I feel like can be enjoyed by literally ANYONE making them perfect for a family or solo movie night.
